Josh Howard went to India expecting to pour into believers there. What he didn’t expect was coming home feeling like his own love for Jesus looked more like liking Jesus than actually loving him. He borrows a phrase from Kyle Idleman that cuts right to the heart of it — many of us who think we love Jesus are actually just fans of Jesus. Not followers. Fans admire from a distance. Followers surrender everything. The Indian believers Josh met weren’t fans. They were followers. And the difference was visible in everything about how they lived. It raises a question worth sitting with today — am I a fan or a follower?
